Dr. Rupert Theophilus Griffith was born on November 7, 1946. He is married to Mrs. Sandra Ray Griffith and is the father of three (3).
Academic Profile
Dr. Griffith has a Masters Degree in Career and Industrial Technology Education and a PhD in Education Administration and Supervision from Bowling Green State University.
He also attained a BSC in Education from State University of New York.
Political Background
Dr. Griffith was first elected to Parliament in 1991, representing the constituency of Arima, and during the 1991 to 1995 Parliament; he served as Deputy Speaker and acted as Speaker between August and December 1995.
He was re-elected a Member of Parliament (Arima) in 1995 and served as a Member of the Opposition People's National Movement from 1995 to 1997. Minister Griffith was a Member of the Cabinet of the United National Congress Government (UNC) from 1997 to 2000 as Minister of Information, Communication, Training and Distance Learning.
Dr. Griffith was elected Speaker of the House on January 12, 2001, and served in that capacity until April 2002.
On Monday May 24, 2010 Dr. Griffith was again elected to the House of Representatives - this time as the Member of Parliament for Toco/Sangre Grande.
Dr. Griffith has worked as a Human Resource Consultant and as the Managing Director of a Real Estate Agency.
