O’Brian Haynes IS entertainment. He is one of if not the most respected person in the entertainment industry in Trinidad and Tobago.
That acclaim is a culmination of over 25 years in the business and covers a wealth of knowledge and experience including procuring international artistes from the most recognised talent and booking agencies such as William Morris and ICM, negotiating with foreign record labels and artiste management for example Bad Boy Entertainment, having all the major Caribbean artistes’ management and artistes themselves ‘on lock’, creating, producing or being associated with every significant international and local concert and production in T&T… and this is just the tip of the pen.
O’Brian works behind the scenes now because he has perfected his skills in front of an audience through a merciless work ethic and that extra quality that makes one stand out. From early teenage days in the fashion industry, O’Brian swiftly parlayed that start into a high-profile television career becoming Host of the ground-breaking television series “Partytime” and later producing his own summer TV series “Party Flava” – all before he was 21. Parallel to his meteoric rise in television, O’Brian strode across every stage of note as Master of Ceremonies of various productions. His uncanny sense of timing marked the success behind many shows resulting in regional promoters and those in the Caribbean diaspora engaging his services to Host or ‘kill a session’ onstage with his DJ. Along the way, the southern-born entertainment expert was also an artistic performer when he was part of the star-studded cast of “Cinderama” – a musical by Godfrey Sealey that starred Machel Montano, Anthony Chow Lin On and O’Brian, naturally. He played and sang in the role of the “Court Jester” and still remembers his lines and the lyrics today.
Apart from all this, it is his radio career that perhaps has identified this top performer the most. From being an on-air announcer at FM 98.9, O’Brian rode to the top becoming Programme Administrator in charge of a staff of 45. And then his dream materialized. Mastering the art of radio, O’Brian was engaged to conceptualise and manage a radio station. He did. And Boom Champions 94.1 FM was born. That it is an acknowledged success is the stuff of dreams. But beyond being a dreamer, O’Brian works his dreams creating magic out of challenges. Today he is the Chief Executive Officer of the two radio stations in his network – the gritty, urban 94.1 FM and the edgy, talk station 102.1 FM. His staff is now 104 employees.
Ask O’Brian what is his secret and he will tell you it is an intuitive sense of knowing your audience, your target market, the business of your industry - and yourself. He is a true entertainment guru. We bow.
