Carnival Development Committee
The Carnival Development Committee was formed in 1972, taking over the organisation of carnival activities in St. Vincent and the Grenadines from the Jaycees organisation. This body operated as an ad hoc committee appointed by Cabinet a few months before carnival until the year 2002.
In November 2002, by an Act (No. 52) of Parliament, the Carnival Development Corporation (CDC) was established. According to the Act, the Corporation has “The power to manage, promote, develop, and carry out the carnival festival or activity within and outside of the State”.
The CDC is proud to produce and promote Vincy Mas, the premier national festival of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
The year 2011 would be the third year that a representative from St. Vincent and the Grenadines would participate in the International Soca Monarch Competition. The CDC is pleased to be associated with the Caribbean Prestige Foundation for the Performing Arts in their effort to promote Caribbean soca music and soca artistes.
